Frequently asked questions about hair treatment

How long does it take to see results?

The results are evident after the second or third session, both in terms of hair density and strengthening.

Is the procedure painful?

Although it may generate some discomfort, it is usually well tolerated. The sensation can vary from slight burning to more noticeable pinpricks, but is generally not considered painful. In salar, topical anesthesia (cream), vibratory distraction and a local anesthetic are used to reduce discomfort during the procedure.

How long does the treatment last?

It lasts between 30-45 min.

Is it suitable for both men and women?

Yes, in men and in women, provided that those of childbearing age use contraceptive methods to avoid pregnancy and it should be avoided in women with a personal history of hormone-dependent breast cancer. Otherwise, it is a treatment with few adverse effects, most of them mild, and very effective.

Is it safe to combine PRP with dustasteride?

The use of dutasteride (oral or injectable) along with PRP is generally safe, but oral dutasteride can have systemic side effects. If dutasteride is administered directly into the scalp, systemic side effects are not common.

Are there any side effects?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is considered safe because it uses the patient’s own blood, which minimizes the risk of serious adverse reactions. However, like any medical procedure, it can have some side effects, usually mild and temporary:

Common side effects

  • Redness and swelling: It is normal for the skin of the scalp to appear somewhat red or swollen after treatment, but this usually disappears within 24-48 hours.
  • Small scabs or bruises: These may appear at injection sites, although they are temporary and usually heal within a few days.
  • Itching or tightness: Some people report an itchy scalp during recovery, which is a normal response of the skin to the healing process.

Less common side effects

  • Infection: Although rare, there is a minimal risk of infection at injection sites if proper hygiene measures are not followed.
  • Mild headache: Some people experience headache after the procedure, but it is usually temporary.
  • Hypersensitivity: In very rare cases, the scalp may react with prolonged sensitivity.

Is it suitable for sensitive scalp?

People with sensitive skin may require specific care after the session, such as avoiding harsh chemicals, direct sun, and the use of mild shampoos to avoid irritation. although PRP and dutasteride may be safe for sensitive scalps, it is essential that the doctor assess the level of sensitivity and make the necessary adjustments to the treatment.

How often is treatment recommended?

  • Initial treatment: 4 sessions every 4-6 weeks.
  • Maintenance: Every 6-12 months, depending on individual response.

Do I need to rest after treatment?

It does not usually require prolonged rest. However, there are some recommendations for care after the procedure:

  • Physical activity: Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that may cause you to sweat excessively during the first 24 hours. Sweating can irritate the scalp and, in some cases, may increase the risk of infection or discomfort in the treated area.
  • Hair washing: It is advisable not to wash the hair or apply products (such as shampoos or conditioners) to the scalp for the first 24 hours to allow the PRP to be properly absorbed.
  • Sun exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure for at least one or two days, as the scalp may be sensitive after the procedure.
  • Avoid massage or manipulation: It is not advisable to massage or manipulate the scalp during the first 24-48 hours to avoid discomfort or possible irritation.
